ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE

Scipio Africanus was a key Roman general during the Second Punic War (218–201 BCE), renowned for his victory over Hannibal at the Battle of Zama in 202 BCE, which ended Carthage’s threat to Rome. Born in 236 BCE, Scipio’s military brilliance was evident in his campaigns in Spain and his strategic adaptability. His achievements occurred during a transformative period for Rome, as it transitioned from a regional power to a dominant Mediterranean force. Scipio’s success and leadership helped shape Rome’s military legacy, contributing to the Republic’s rise and the eventual creation of the Roman Empire.
