ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) is the third committee of the United Nations General Assembly, established in 1947. Its main focus is on issues that impact human rights, social development, and cultural matters around the world. SOCHUM addresses topics such as the promotion and protection of human rights, the elimination of racial discrimination, gender equality, and the advancement of the well-being of children, refugees, and other vulnerable groups. As part of the General Assembly, SOCHUM works through diplomacy and multilateral cooperation to bring attention to pressing social and humanitarian issues. The committee encourages member states to work collaboratively to create and implement resolutions that improve the quality of life for people around the globe, ensuring that all individuals have the right to live in dignity and peace.
