ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a political and military alliance established in 1949 to provide collective defense and promote stability and security among its member countries. Comprising 32 member states from North America and Europe, NATO’s primary purpose is to safeguard the freedom and security of its members through political and military means. It operates on the principle of collective defense, meaning that an attack against one member is considered an attack against all. NATO plays a key role in crisis management, cooperative security, and partnership building, working to address security challenges such as terrorism, cyber threats, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Through various missions and operations, NATO fosters peace, democratic values, and stability, contributing to global security and conflict prevention. The organization also works closely with other international institutions like the UN and the EU to address global security concerns.
